Amorim Cork Facade Board

MD Facade is Amorim's medium-density expanded cork board, engineered to serve as continuous exterior insulation and the finished facade in a single layer. Born from Álvaro Siza and Eduardo Souto de Moura's Portugal Pavilion at Expo Hannover 2000 — still performing today — it is 100% cork with zero added binders, glues or resins.

Performance

Third-party lab testing (RDH Building Science, ASTM C518) measured R-3.3 per inch at 75°F mean temperature, with vapor permeance of 1.2 US perms at 2" thickness. Medium density (8.9 lb/ft³, 143 kg/m³) gives the board the mechanical stability, bending strength and point-load resistance needed for exposed cladding, and cork's thermal-delay behavior buffers rapid day/night temperature swings.

Exposed Facade Use

The finer-milled surface is left uncoated and weathers naturally to a silver-grey patina with minimal maintenance — no paint, stain or sealer. The 2" board ships with a shiplap edge for weather-lapped joints; the 1" board is square-edge. Fastens with adhesive or mechanical fixing over a continuous substrate.

Sizes & Applications

Boards are 19.625" × 39" and sold in packs of six (32.29 sq ft per pack), stocked as 2" shiplap and shipped from the Austin, TX warehouse. 1" square-edge and thicker profiles up to 8" are available by special order — request a quote. Use for exterior facade and cladding, cork-and-lime plaster EIFS, rainscreen-free monolithic wall assemblies, and high-exposure roof or parapet details.
